About me
Dupé Oshinowo is an artist and educator whose work is a journey of self-discovery and creative expression. Born in Nigeria and raised in England from the age of 7, Dupé's diverse background has deeply informed both her artistic practice and her approach to life.
In her twenties, she spent a decade in New York City, where she pursued a career as a dancer and actor. It was there that she honed her understanding of movement and emotion, skills that would later influence her visual art.
After returning to England, Dupé transitioned into a fulfilling career as a youth worker, a role she viewed as a calling. Now based in Berlin, she has fully embraced her identity as a visual artist, merging her creative work with her skills as an informal educator.
Dupé's artistic journey began as a way to uncover hidden or forgotten aspects of herself. Initially experimenting with acrylics, she soon found a deeper connection with oils, which have since become her preferred medium. Her work explores themes of Black diaspora, identity, loneliness, belonging, vulnerability, strength, beauty, and hope, all expressed through vivid and bold colors.
Her style has been described as "sensual art", with an ability to touch the soul and evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Dupé’s work is not confined by any single form or stylistic model but instead evolves organically, resonating deeply with those who engage with it.
Like her art, Dupé is constantly evolving, embracing change, and growing both as an artist and as an individual.
